Van received a gift card from Aunt Atley for his birthday. It was burning a hole in his pocket and he decided that he NEEDED to go to Wal-Mart to spend it. So off we went. He knew exactly what he wanted..he saw the commercial and everything. He wanted color changing Hot Wheels. So he gets what he wants and he is so excited to pay with his "credit card." After he hands the cashier his card, she scans it, and throws it in the trash. He was devistated!! He could not understand why she didn't give his credit card back...we get our credit card back when we pay...it wasn't fair!! We had to discuss that his card was a gift card and that after the money on it is gone, the card is no good anymore. We also had to discuss the Mommy and Papi go to work everyday so that we will get more money on our cards, too. Then he asked how he will get more money on his card. To make a long story short, Van now has chores around the house that he will earn money on Fridays to put onto his "credit card." He has to pick up the toys around the house, take out the trash, and set and clear the table. Pretty reasonable chores for a 5 year old. He loves the "chore" thing. He must ask 5 times a day if the trash needs to be taken out!! If only his excitement will stay forever...I doubt it...but I can dream!!

Uncle Nathan:  I have several of the color changing Hot Wheels, they are VERY cool.

I normally would say..."We had soooo much fun on Halloween"...but this year was soooo weird!! Let me tell you about Halloween..... The boys have been so excited about Halloween and going trick or treating. All day long they asked, "Is it time to get dressed for Halloween?" After dinner, I started getting the boys dressed. Van was ready and excited. Max...not so much!! He cried and I ended up making him put his costume on. I put Max in the stroller and off we went to the first house (the next door neighbor that they LOVE). Van ran all the way there, but Max would have nothing to do with getting out of the stroller. After several houses, I just stopped asking if he wanted to get out and go trick or treating. 30 minutes into the adventure...Max throws up on himself. I felt HORRIBLE!! I MADE him get dressed; I MADE him get into the stroller; I MADE him go trick or treating!!! I'm a horrible mother!!! Thankfully, Atley and Ray were there with Dylan and they took Van trick or treating and Max and I went home. By the time we got home, he had thrown up on himself two more times. By the time I got him in bed, he threw up four more times!!! I felt HORRIBLE...and I still do!!! Today he feels MUCH better. He is running around this afternoon and eating a little bit. Poor thing missed all the fun of Halloween!! Well...the good news is that it is not the flu, it's not swine flu....and Halloween will come around again next year!!

Aunt Martha:  What a horrible mother NOT!!...if you never talk about this again he will NEVER remember it happened. You have pictures that he went and that is all he need ever know. Next year he will be more verbal and will tell you if he feels bad.

Van went to the dr. for his 5 year check-up. It was a really important check-up!! They checked his vision, hearing, and spine. He passed his hearing test and his spine is straight. He did the vision test, but they would like to recheck his vision test again in another week. They weren't sure if he couldn't see them or if he was unsure of what to do. He got his blood drawn for several different checks including another allergy test. He got four update shots, too!! And his favorite part of the doctor visit....he got to pee in a cup!!! That was the highlight of his day!!

Van turned 5 this weekend!! We had a party for him at Chuck E. Cheese. He had a blast. He has been waiting and asking for months about Papi smashing his face in the cake....so, of course, Papi helped him out with that!!! I'm not sure what his friends thought about that...some of their faces were horrified (!!!) but Van thought it was GREAT. Check out the pics.

My baby is going to be 5 in five days!!! How and when did that happen??? He has already told me of many of the things that big boys can and can't do. Here is a list of the few that I can remember off the top of my head. When you are five years old you can: buckle your own seat beat, tie your own shoes, play baseball without your mom and dad on the field. The things that you can't do are: ride in the "baby stroller," play "baby games." He's growing up too fast...someone...quick...invent something to slow it down!!!

We took the boys to their first state fair tlast weekend. They loved it!!! They got to ride a "real" train to the entrance of fair from the parking lot. They tasted cotton candy for the first time. We saw a GIANT pig (1500lbs)....he was HUGE!!! We rode some ride, played some games, and had a great time. Check out the pics!!

Van had his first t-ball game as a "Rockhound" this Saturday. He is the oldest on the team and looks like he is three years older than most of them. Several of the players just turned 3, a few are first time 4-year-old players, and Van is the oldest and he is almost 5. It is really funny that there is such a HUGE age range in this league. But, he had a great time. As Van says "The Rockhounds, ROCK!!" Check out the pics!!

Van lost another tooth today. He was eating a popcorn ball and when he finished, he reached to start wiggling the tooth. He freaked out because his tooth wasn't wiggling anymore. When he showed me, he tooth was gone (he was trying to wiggle the wrong tooth!!). We searched all the popcorn ball crumbs, his clothes, the floor, etc, but didn't find anything!! He though it was hilarious that he ate it!! About 10 minutes later, I found it on the floor....I think he was a little bummed he didn't eat it...that was a WAY better story!! However, he is VERY excited for the tooth fairy to come...already asking me how much the tooth fairy will give him!!
